Meteorite Impactite Fragment (Tektite Fragment), (Impact Rock), Large Sized, Genuine, Rough, Worldwide Shipping
For sale is an impact fragment of a meteorite strike (also known as Tektite). A tektite is a rare natural glass formed when an asteroid strikes the earth. These fragments are indochinites and were formed as a byproduct of a meteorite impact and subsequently cooled to form the distinctive glass-like structure. Indochinite tektites, as the name implies, are found in the Indochinese peninsula, from Australia and the Pacific islands of Micronesia in the east and south, to China and Indonesia in the north and west.
- The fragments measure about 2 inches long (5cm) long and may differ slightly from what is pictured in the photos (i.e. most of these are roundish/ovalish in shape).
- The fragments weigh approximately 40 to 45 grams a piece on average.
- The composition of these fragments is mostly impact glass and some other compounds including iron, quartz, zircon, rutile, chromite, and monazite.
